Wrap That Shit Up

What am I truly enjoying this season, and what’s just for the sake that I have the time for it this season?

Well, I’ve enjoyed many series this seasons, so I’ll just list the ones that are not so much.

First batter up is World Destruction. I didn’t have a great outlook for this one at all, but I did enjoy the first few episodes. It’s still on the meh, and I mean really meh.

Antique Bakery - I voiced my opinion pretty well on this already, so let’s not get into it any further.

Telepathic Girl Ran - While I do enjoy the characters, this show doesn’t have that missing something to pull me into being really interested. Otherwise, it is a solid series that needs something.

Haruka Nogizaki’s Secret - Despite it being very cliche, and the fact the I absolutely dreaded the first episode. I found that the second episode had a good redeeming factor. In any case, I’m still worried about how good this will be, but I decided to stick to it.

Strike Witches - I still wonder why none of the girls wear any skirts, or pants. It’s still a semi-enjoyable show with magic girls, and guns.

Koihime Musou - Umm, h-game, shallow story, but me likes Rot3K.

Azu - 時間よ止まれ

Going to be quick with this post. I was instantly hooked to this song when it was a insert song in Itazura na Kiss at episode 11.

I love the OP and ED songs. The animation is amazing (which is expected from Bones). The series feels like it is a love child of Studio Ghibli and Eureka Seven. Lots of good things to expect from this series, and it’s hardsubbed with the original Japanese vocals. There is one main catch. It is only available from PSN on your PS3. I suppose you can do some torrenting for it also. The idea was that Sony had shelved a lot of money to Bones to animate a series exclusively for PSN. I think this strategy is one of the best to keep anime alive in US industries if it were involved in more mediums such as youtube. However, at the cost of 3.99 for 1080p and 2.99 for SD per episode, the price is steep. You also need a PS3, and PSN is only available in US regions, and everything is region-locked. Actually, it would probably be available in Japan, but PSN video store isn’t open until Fall for them >.>. Omni has posted the OP and ED on his post about this new series. This new revelation is what might tip me over to PS3 over XBOX360. I’m still on the fence on which console to buy because both have the same software library now, and I wonder if these prices will lower. I’d happily rent a 1080p episode for 1.50-2.00, but I’d have to be bonkers to pay 3.99 for 2-week availability and 1 day after being played.

Blade of the Immortal

I would have far better expectations for this if it wasn’t Bee Train animating this. Also, whats with the sound direction. I usually don’t pay attention to this thing at all, so when a person like myself thinks it is obtrusive and a mood killer there is a problem. The good thing is that this show can be brutal in the way of killing people. The animation is also pretty good except at the very end where everything turned into stills. Seriously, what the fuck. If the animation quality continues like the end of the episode, I will drop it without a second thought.

Haruka Nogizaki’s Secret

I really don’t have much to say about this show. I thought it was ehh. I didn’t find anything to like, but I didn’t find much to hate either. The characters all come from a long line of cliche anime romance comedy. The impression it left me was “Wow, I haven’t seen this before…” type of thing. So… yeah I got nothing.

The adven misadventures of Kan’u (Guan Yu).  This series was based off a hentai game.  I’m not sure what it was about, but I can probably guess.  Confront 3 Kingdom Generals (btw this is based of using RotK characters) that are conveiniently women, beat said General, and then rape them to join your side, and rinse and repeat.  If I’m wrong please correct me.  This series, however, doesn’t have the lead male, so there won’t be many hints of being raped by men (at least I think).  The episode is pretty light-hearted with decent action, and I like the portrayl of Kan’u, but everything starts to go down hill when Chouhi was introduced.  Since I figured that following a series isn’t my style, it gives me a lot of time to watch other series.  This series will probably be on I watch it because I can type of thing.

Mission E - The World is Turning Fucking Upside-down

I don’t mean in a bad way.  Due the impression Code-E left me, I wasn’t expecting to like this series much less think how awesome it would be.  The action and animation are good.  I like Maori, but her leaves lots to be desired.  The main thing that bothered me a lot was THE FUCKING FLAT NOSES whenever there is a frontal shot of a character.  It really gets disturbing at times.  The impression this left me was good, so I hope it continues to be.

World Destruction - OMGWTFBBQ

Not too sure what I just watched, but it really wasn’t all that bad.  A bear mascot thing that is dressed like a true butt pirate.  A cowardly lead with hidden powers.  And a angsty girl with something against the world enough to want to destroy it.  I’m not too sure what stand point I take on this series, but it was good enough to see what’s next.

Edit: Forgot to mention Maaya Sakamoto plays the lead female.  Always a delight having her voice a character with her strong voice.

Natsume’s Book of Friends

As far as shows about mysticism and ayakashi and youkai, this show is middle ground for me.  It starts out much like xxxHolic, but diverges quite a bit when the friend book is introduced.  Takeshi’s grandmother, Reiko, apparently stole/won many demons’ names, and they are starting to hunt Takeshi mistaking him for Reiko.  Takeshi decides he is going to give the names of the demons back.

The show itself can actually develop itself to be quite interesting.   I’m not to fond of Nyanko, but he isn’t too bad of a character, and Takeshi can use a lot more emotions.  I don’t know if the VA, Hiroshi Kamiya, doesn’t have the character right (unlikely) or it’s just how Takeshi is written as.  Lots of potential in this one for me as I am a fan of Japanese Mythology.

Familiar of Zero - Rondo of the Princesses

What can I say?  It’s just more of the same from the last 2 seasons.  There is definately nothing wrong with more of the same.  This episode definately had a lot more plot and action than it did fan service though.  Anyway, I look forward to watching more ZnT.

Ryouko Case Files

This kind of gave me the feeling of Himitsu Top Secret without the mystery element.  First episode ended in a cliff hanger, and the show was decent enough.  It’s good enough for me to check a few more episodes out before I draw any conclusions.
